Yoga

The word Yoga means to ‘yolk’ or ‘bind’. Yoga is in essense about harmony of body, mind and spirit. But on a deeper level it can be about revealing our true connection to mother nature and the universal consciousness.

Hatha Yoga refers to a set of physical exercises known as postures or asanas. This is the Yoga that most of us are most familiar with in the western world. The yoga poses are designed to unblock energy channels in the body and let energy flow freely. Hatha Yoga is a powerful tool for physical and mental transformation. It is different from other forms of exercise because the movements in the body are connected to the breath and this in turn helps to quieten the fluctuations of the mind. It then becomes like a moving meditation.

There are many different styles of Hatha Yoga. This class has a flowing style with a faster pace then many gentler Hatha classes but it is not as fast as a vinyasa class and we spend more time holding and exploring each pose then some other styles. There is a very strong emphasis on connecting the the breath in each pose. Safety and alignment is also a strong focus. Each class also includes breathing techniques and/or deep relaxation.

This class is mixed level and beginners are welcome. Poses can be modified to offer less/more challenge as needed.
